With diet, exercise, and behavior therapy, this medication will help individuals to lose weight. This medication comes in three forms tablets, capsules, and resin capsules. Phentermine brand names are Ionamin and Adipex-P.
Phentermine should be taken on an empty stomach, once a day, prior to breakfast. If it is being taken in tablet form, it may be broken in half. Do not crush or chew the tablets. Phentermine may disrupt normal sleep patterns, so avoid taking doses late in the day. Take the dose as late as about 4-6 hours before bed. Take the medication only as directed by your doctor, do not take more of it, do not take it more often, do not take it for longer than prescribed.
If too much medication is taken, it may cause unwanted effects or become habit forming. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible, unless it is close to next dosage than skip the missed dose. An overdose is not likely to be life threatening, however if a much larger dose is taken please contact your doctor or 911 as necessary.
Store the medication away from heat, light, and moisture.

• Advanced Atherosclerosis
• Alcohol abuse
• Any allergies
• Diabetes Mellitus (sugar diabetes)
• Drug abuse or dependence
• Family history of mental illness
• Glaucoma
• Hyperthyroidism
• Kidney disease
• Mental illness
• Moderate to severe hypertension (high blood pressure)
• Symptomatic Cardiovascular disease
• The use of Monoamine Oxidase inhibitors within the last two weeks
• Breast feeding
• Drinking alcohol
• Diabetes
• Driving or hazardous work
• Pregnant or may become pregnant
• Surgery, dental treatment, or emergency treatment
Inform your doctor if you are taking certain medications
• Amantadine – Symmetrel
• Amphetamines
• Caffeine – Nodoz
• Chlophedianol – Ulone
• Cocaine
• Asthma medication – or other breathing problems
• Medicine for colds, sinus problems, hay fever, or allergies (including nose sprays/drops)
• Methylphenidate – Ritalin
• Nablone – Cesamet
Also inform your doctor of other diet pills you are taking
• Atalopian – Celexa
• Fluvoxamine – Luvox
• Sertraline – Zoloft
• Fluxetine – Prozac
• Paroxetine – Paxil
Consult your doctor immediately if you notice chest pain, decreased ability to
exercise, fainting, swelling of feet or lower legs, or trouble breathing. Other common side effects are depression, drowsiness, increased blood pressure, irritability, nervousness, sense of well being and tiredness.
If becoming dependent on Phentermine contact doctor immediately. It may take time after an individual stops taking medication for their body to readjust. This medication should be used in conjunction with diet and exercise.
